JAN LAYH - painter
Jan Layh has been a strong promoter of local art from 2000. Much of her work celebrates the importance of art in the community: a colourful mural on the Langenburg Theatre and three intricate mosaic tile walls along the town’s main thoroughfare which depict the Coat of Arms of Langenburg as well as the contribution of area veterans and pioneers. Jan organized the Annual Shellmouth Art Retreats attended by artists from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. The Prairie landscape has always been an inspiration for Jan and she is continually challenged by the changing seasons, the grandeur and the beauty of the Prairies. Jan had shows in Saskatoon (Collector’s Choice and Humanum Galleries), Regina (McIntyre Street Gallery), Winnipeg (Fleet Gallery) and Calgary (Free Spirit Gallery).
Jan Layh periodically organizes numerous Art classes in Manitoba and Saskatchewan for adults and kids.
NATHAN LAYH - Guitar & Bass Instructor
Nathan Layh is a versatile young musician and graduate of the Brandon University School of Music. Although his major was Classical Guitar he primarily plays steel string acoustic and electric styles like blues, funk and rock. In addition to running his private guitar studio, Nathan spends his time working on material for his original group, the Layh-Stacey Band, and jamming with local musicians. While in Brandon attending university, Nathan made his living teaching guitar and working in music stores. He spent his free time working with bands and running a local jam night in town. Through these experiences Nathan's perception of music transformed. What he once thought of as good sounds made by talented people became a deep experience of connection shared by all those present and available to anyone. He believes that everyone is capable of music making, and that the greatest joy of music is not the tune itself, but the experience of existing within it.
